Full service web hosting sites may charge more for their expertise; but in the long run you will save yourself a lot of time and frustration. If you choose to use the cheapest hosting company out there to save a few bucks, you’re in for an ugly surprise.

Is it worth struggling with unreliable servers, limited storage space, no secure email accounts, no security features or failed customer shopping carts? How will it profit your company if you create your own website but no one knows it’s there? How will you benefit if something goes wrong and you don’t have any access to technical help? All these factors should be considered when selecting a hosting company.

In order to create and host your own website you should be experienced in web language, file transfer protocols and other types of e-commerce features. In addition, you should have training and skill sets for internet marketing strategies and how to lead customer traffic to your website. If any of these things sound like a foreign language then it would be in your interest to benefit from the expertise and skills of a full service web hosting company such as Bluehost.

How Do You Enhance Security on Dedicated Servers?

If you are looking into various service providers for all of your web hosting needs, you are probably worried about how secure your server will be. But when comparing a certain deal in web hosting to having a dedicated server, you may find that a dedicated server will be have quite a bit more security. If you are using a web hosting package, you are most likely having to share that server with other people who are using that web host provider. This can really hurt how secure your content is on your server.

If you want to not be hacked or cracked while using a Dedicated Server, it’s best to put to use the follow tips.

- Change your passwords. If you have a dedicated server, this the the primary and most important thing to do to insure your security. Take this step as you configure your server, as it’s essential to your basic security. By changing these passwords every three months, you stand a far better chance of preventing harmful viruses and attempts at hacking your information. An ideal password will incorporate lowercase and uppercase letters, as well as numbers and unusual characters that would make it difficult for someone to guess at.

SSH is preferable over FTP, make sure you turn off the one you decide to not use. Basically, if you are using SSH, you should not have FTP on. Make sure you disable FTP so there is no gaps in your security. When a hacker is looking to break into a server, they always look for loop holes such as an inactive FTP application. For any reason you might use FTP, never send a password through it, due to the fact it is simple text, many people can easily intercept it.

Telnet is much less secure than using an SSH application. When it comes to dedicated servers, one of the biggest threats to your security is running telnet on it. You should also make sure to get as much out of secure shell as you can.

- Use a Firewall for protection. If you are on a dedicated server, this is also vital. If you install an effective firewall, any attempts at hacking your data will be detected before they even happen. Neither Linux or Windows firewalls are completely immune to new viruses, so keep your firewall software updated regularly.

- Back up your data. All it takes is one bad command and your data could be lost. Copy your important data once every week, or at least once per month.

Even these critical security methods aren’t always enough to keep your server impenetrable, so periodic maintenance on dedicated servers is essential.

Web Hosting

The “Next Frontier” for astronauts and scientists might be outer space, but for businessmen, it’s the internet. Already, the World Wide Web has turned nobodies into billionaires, creating a whole new aristocracy in the world - one that could consist of anybody, regardless of race, gender, heritage, or even age. Indeed, this is the best time for people to get rich. In fact, these days are exactly like the idyllic days where the pioneers settled and explored the rich new land. Only, this time, it’s not land that will earn you money. It’s web sites. Indeed, create the perfect site and you could find yourself swimming in money. The key to it is to understand what the people like and to be able to give it with good consistency and outstanding accuracy. And to do this, you need a good web host. To determine whether a web host is good or not, you must take note of these services:

Firewall

Hackers - we’ve all heard about them. But the true depth of a hacker’s actions can only be felt when you are attacked by them first hand. With just one strong attack, you could see your life’s work dwindling down the drain. So, to protect yourself against these hackers, your web hosting service must have a good firewall set up.

Website Back up

When the hackers do get in and break into the web hosts defenses, however, they have to have some back-up plans. They can’t let down all their patrons because they couldn’t recover when they were attacked. Good web hosting services have to give daily website back up where all their customer’s files and data are stored in different back up servers to ensure that, should the need arise, they can still put everything back where it was.

More than 99% Uptime Guarantee

A good web host must always be reliable. There should be no downtimes that last for days on end. In fact, there has to be an uptime guarantee of more than 99.9%. Remember, if you are going to conduct business through your website, then you can’t upset your customers by being unavailable. And your website’s availability will depend entirely on your web host. You can’t have it breaking down in the worst moments. So there must be some kind of guarantee.

The Benefits And Features Of SharePoint Hosting

Microsoft SharePoint leverages server operating systems that support business requirements ranging from small team websites to large corporation portals. SharePoint offers great security, reliability, and scaleable site management that provide a high performance environment for any company.

While you might wonder what this has to do with managing contacts in SharePoint hosting? It has a great deal to do with the fact that all information is synchronized and shared by authorized users throughout an organization, and this includes contacts supported by Microsoft Office programs.

Individuals or companies who offer reselling of Microsoft SharePoint hosting can now offer their users Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. This will allow their customers to easily connect to people, processes, and information stored on the server. SharePoint resellers can easily target large organizations who are looking for an easy way to extend their business processes throughout the company. With dozens of added features like contact lists, task lists, document libraries, calendars, blogs, wikis, and announcements, it should be a pretty easy sell.

This portal server allows one point of access to several systems and acts as a virtual meeting place for the easy exchange of information for an organization which has bought the SharePoint hosting services from the reseller. SharePoint services can be configured to customized specifications, with systems such as project management and business intelligence being easily managed through SharePoint 3.0.

Windows SharePoint services essentially takes file storage and sharing to the next level. It makes it possible for individuals and teams to become more productive and create websites for information sharing and document collaboration. SharePoint was specifically designed for companies to focus on developing applications that makes management easy.

Anyone who resells SharePoint hosting is issued a control panel where they can manage each of their customers or clients. These control panels are while labeled so they can easily be branded with any company logos.

SharePoint Hosting reselling under your own brand could be very profitable. The ability of resellers to private label or white label is therefore quite important. Clients want to be in a position where their data is stored safely and securely, and managed by an outsourcing company. Offering them service which is able to manage, store and access data throughout the entire organization from one central location, allows users access to a consistent mechanism through which they can search for relevant information.

With all of the information out there, now you can clearly see why SharePoint hosting is a great thing for businesses of all sizes.

What to Look for in a Data Centre

A data centre is a facility where computer systems and their associated components are physically housed. Data centres include a backup power supply, redundant data communications connections, environmental (climate, etc.) controls, and security devices. Any business that relies upon a computer network and web-based applications can reasonably expect to require the use of a data centre. Some companies build their own data centres on their premises. Many other companies, (especially those with complex business functions that rely heavily on technology) elect to outsource their infrastructure and web hosting to a service that includes use of the vendors data centre. The latter has several different benefits, including:

- Greater value with managed hosting options - Better use of your time and resources - Business continuity and quick responsiveness in disaster recovery situations - Bonus added-value features

Shopping for a Data Centre Once youve made the decision to outsource your managed hosting and data centre needs, you must start the grueling process of searching for a vendor. There are many different factors to consider when evaluating infrastructure-hosting vendors. Not the least of these factors is the actual data centre itself. Take the time to evaluate the data centre properly and make sure you are thorough about assessing if it will meet your organizations needs. Below are some guidelines to help get you started.

Identify Your Needs It seems logical, right? Well, you would be surprised to learn how many IT managers search for outsourced data centre space or services without really taking stock of their datas physical needs. If you are a small or large company that doesnt quite transmit much data your needs will be much different than they would be for a huge online business that sees thousands of web transactions daily. Think about what your needs are before you start meeting with vendors.

Inspect the Facility At the very least, good data centres must possess certain physical qualities and properties. When you first walk into a data centre, you may not find it to appear very interesting. Generally, you will see a large or small room (or it can be as large as an entire building) with row upon row of 19-inch rack cabinets, which contain (mostly) servers and some other communications or storage equipment. You should confirm that backup power (at least one, but more is better) in the form of uninterruptable power supplies or diesel generators are present. In order to prevent power failure to any part of the system, you should confirm that all elements of the electrical system (including backup power) are fully duplicated. The data centre should be carefully climate-controlled with air conditioning so that the temperature ranges from 20″25 C (68″75 F) and humidity ranges from 40″55%. Physical security is a crucial component in a good data centre. Make sure physical access is restricted to selected staff and select a data centre that offers video camera surveillance and permanent security guards 24 hours a day.

Dont Forget About Service Though there are many other considerations when inspecting data centre facilities, the most important ones are the redundant power supply, climate control, and security. You must consider, however, that the data centre is only part of a larger package. Dont forget to analyze all the aspects of the hosting solution you are considering. Talk to different vendors and try to get a sense of the value thats added to their overall service. If you can, try to speak with current and/or former clients of the hosting provider to ask questions about their experience with the service.

The Best Dedicated Server Operating System

Once you have chosen on obtaining your business dedicated server, you need to decide on the server operating system which can depend on the availability, cost and employee expertise.

Unlike the desktop world Microsoft does not rule the roost. Variations of open source operating systems abound including Linux and FreeBSD. These are often included at no extra charge to the customer. Commercial operating systems include Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and 2008, can be (installed|provided if the dedicated server host has a Microsoft SPLA agreement.

Red Hat Enterprise is a commercial version of Linux or RHEL offered to hosting providers on a monthly fee basis. However you can use the a RHEL derivative known as Centos which has free updates. With Red Hat there is a subscription which provides for OS updates through the Red Hat Network using an application called up2date which is rpm based

Other operating systems are available from the open source community at no cost. These include CentOS, Fedora Core, Debian, and many other Linux distributions or BSD Unixsystems such as FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD.

Typical support for any of the operating systems above depends on the type of supervision offered with a particular dedicated server package. Operating system support may include updates to the core system in order to that the latest patches and security fixes are installed.

It is quite common on non Microsoft Servers to be provided with a control panel to manage the server, especially if the server is required for web hosting. Cpanel which includes Web Host Manager (WHM) allows for the upgrade of the core operationg system as well as the routine admin tasks.
